In 1999, visited Cuba as a member of the Panamanian National Team to play in the Centrobasket tournament. The experience w as unique and amazing, as I had been studying Cuba in school for years. As you can imagine, the trip did not lend to many opportunities to explore, nor did we get to engage with the Cuban people. 25 years later, I joined a group that traveled to Cuba in support of the Cuban people. We got to visit a dolphin preserve and swim with them. We toured Havana and learned so much from our guides, and we brought much-needed provisions to an organization helping children across the island. Cuba is mostly stuck in the same place since the embargo was enacted, but there are signs of what Cuba could be in the future. I plan to return, but it won’t take me 25 years to do so. Here are a few pictures I took on my recent trip to Cuba. If you’d like to see more photos, you can check out this album.
