The Block Party is an NYC tradition, dating back many decades. Each summer, block associations across the city close their streets for a day so their residents can gather for food, music and good times. On a beautiful day in June, my friend Marlon Rice threw a block party to commemorate his 49th birthday. The outpouring of love from the crowd that gathered was infectious. The DJ’s had everyone constantly moving. The vendors made sure the people were fed. But the highlight of the day, was a performance on the stoop by Tek and Steele of Smif-N-Wessun. Brooklyn’s own Original Gun Clappas ran through a few of their hits, with the crowd reciting their words right along with them. Here are a few of the pictures, plus a clip of their performance. More pics of the day can be found here.
