The City of New York decided to celebrate HipHop50 with a series of block parties. For two weekends in August, each borough would host a block party, with food vendors, retail vendors, DJ’s and performances. I made it to the Queens celebration, which was held outside the infamous Queensbridge Houses. Nas and Mobb Deep immortalized these projects in their records, so it was kind of surreal to be celebrating on these streets. Roxanne Shante, who’s from Queensbridge, was our host as she took us down memory lane about life in the QB and introduced the artists touching the stage. Sweet Tee, Da Bushbabees, Fu-Shnickens, The Jungle Brothers, dead prez, Onyx, Havoc, Beenie Sigel, Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane all gave heartfelt performances. Pretty dope seeing these artists up close and personal. Oh, then they had a drone show that was fire! Until next time!
